These terms denote whether a variety has 22 chromosomes to a cell (diploid) or 44 (tetraploid or tet). This is really of concern only to daylily hybridizers, as you can only cross a diploid with a diploid and a tetraploid with a tetraploid. As far as gardening considerations are concerned, both are great.
